Starla Ross is a passionate and innovative leader with over 20 years of experience committed to creating equitable learning experiences for adults and children in public and charter schools.

Starla’s educational experiences include serving as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, principal, School Development Coach, and most recently Executive Director of Teacher Development & Literacy. In this role, she supported school-wide literacy initiatives, new teacher development, and instructional coach training through job-embedded professional learning. Starla is proud to have been a part of an innovative school-turnaround leadership team that has not only moved a school out of failing status, but increased scores for three consecutive years.

Starla is an Education Equity Fellow through the Riley Institute at Furman University in South Carolina, a trained education equity coach through the National Equity Project Organization in Oakland, California, a National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) Fellow, and a Rensselaerville Institute School Turnaround Specialist.

Starla is a published author of a children's book used to teach children about dementia and help adult caregivers find comfort and healing.

Why are you passionate about working for NIET?

NIET equips schools and districts with the necessary tools and resources to become equitable learning organizations so that students can have exceptional learning experiences. When adults are empowered, children are empowered. This is the meaningful work I want to be involved in.
