Why are you passionate about working at NIET?

With over two decades in education, I know the impact that high-quality teachers and leaders have on student learning. NIET’s commitment to providing all students opportunities for success, with a focus on excellence, proven instructional practices, and strong educator leadership, aligns with my core beliefs on effective education. Each day, I am contributing to a mission-driven organization dedicated to ensuring teachers and leaders have the knowledge, tools and resources they need to provide students the best learning experiences possible.

What was your favorite subject in school and why?

Not surprisingly, my favorite subject in school was writing. I enjoyed, and continue to be inspired by, the opportunity for creativity and connection that happens through writing. Growing up an avid reader of literature, I experienced worlds beyond my imagination through powerful words on a page. Writing, through a variety of different mediums, quickly became a favorite activity throughout my educational journey.

Who was your favorite teacher?

My favorite teacher was Mr. Robert Hancock. A social studies and language arts teacher by training, Mr. Hancock also taught Leadership and served as the advisor for ASB activities. He taught with an energy and enthusiasm that captured my attention, incorporating relevant content and learning activities that resonated with students. Mr. Hancock seemed to have so much fun each day, it made me want to become a teacher.
