School earns $10,000 for increasing instructional excellence and student achievement growth
Slaton High School in the Slaton Independent School District, Texas, is selected among five schools across the country as a finalist for the 2020 NIET Founder's Award. The honor comes with a $10,000 prize.
Since starting full implementation of the NIET TAP System for Teacher and Student Advancement, Slaton High has seen better performance on standardized testing, improved state accountability ratings, and an increased number of students leaving high school with industry-based certifications and college credit hours.
"The culture at Slaton High School has changed tremendously," Principal Tiffany Potts says. "The students feel the normality and the protocols that are in place. They know that every room they go to is going to have some stability, and that the teachers are all doing the same things to make sure they are learning."
