U.S. Education Secretary John B. King Jr. Addresses 2016 TAP Conference Welcome

U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. welcomes the more than 1,000 educators, policymakers, researchers and other influential leaders gathered at the 2016 National TAP Conference, held in New Orleans, Louisiana. A former teacher and principal himself as well as a product of educators, King Jr. emphasizes the importance of talented educators in preparing all students for success in a global economy.
"The TAP community is playing a role. You are shining a light on what's possible for students when we invest in quality instruction and support the development of teachers and leaders.
"To the teacher leaders in the room, thank you for taking on new roles and responsibilities. You are driving real improvements in instruction in your schools. To the principals in the room, thank you for creating the conditions for teacher and student success. To the state and district leaders in the room, thank you for your collaborative spirit. Thank you to the staff and leadership of the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) for your commitment to improving instruction, reducing turnover and supporting opportunities for growth."
