The Texas IMPACT Grant: Building a Foundation for Student Success

In 2021, NIET launched the Texas IMPACT (Improving Management Systems for Principals And Classroom Teachers) grant, a transformative partnership with three Texas school districts—Crockett, Gladewater, and Somerset Independent School Districts. This initiative aimed to address pandemic-related learning declines and bolster student achievement in some of the state’s highest-needs communities. Over the course of three years, the grant impacted 15 schools, more than 30 school leaders, 450 teachers, and 7,000 students annually.

The Texas IMPACT grant sought to improve teacher and school leader effectiveness while building sustainable systems to support lasting educational progress. Central to this effort was the implementation of NIET’s evidence-based TAP System for Teacher and Student Advancement. This comprehensive framework empowered districts to strengthen instructional leadership, provide embedded professional development, and align teaching practices across schools.

By the end of the grant:

  • 92% of educators in the three districts achieved an effectiveness rating.
  • 91% of effective educators were retained by their districts.
  • Passing rates improved across all state-tested subjects.

These achievements illustrate how collaborative efforts and proven strategies can drive equity and excellence, ensuring all students have access to high-quality education. Learn more about Texas IMPACT here.
